Lanzarote 2018…

It’s been a while since I’ve written a blog, but I’m back with another short holiday overview..

I had the week booked off from work as it was my birthday on the 26th, this year I decided that I wanted to go away for my birthday, just on a short getaway. I put this suggestion to Colls and he agreed, but suggested we went somewhere hot… After doing a little research into somewhere close by, hot in November and not pricey, the Canary Islands came up, with a lot of recommendations from people we knew, Lanzarote was the chosen location.

We flew out on the 24th November and flew home on the 27th, we went with Easy Jet and the flights were only about £80 each. We stayed at Occidental Lanzarote Playa (it was recommended to us) and I would 1000% recommended this hotel to anyone else (maybe not out of term time though, as I can imagine it’s definitely popular with families and can get very busy) half board came with our room so breakfast and dinner were included in the price, both meals were of buffet style with soooo much food choice of both hot and cold food, we definitely ate well during our stay! The staff were all so lovely, friendly and welcoming, one staff member jumping in on our table tennis game and also coming back to a bottle of drink on my birthday with a happy birthday note (Colls claims he has nothing to do with it this time, therefore being all off the hotels own back, which is so lovely) There was so much ‘entertainment’ choice, with different sporting activities you could do for free and some with a small charge and every so often there would be staff members by the pool getting everyone involved in dance routines. The room itself, I had nothing to fault with it, we had a sea view, decent sized balcony, a beautiful bathroom and the most comfiest beds! In terms of hotel location, it was only around 15mins taxi ride from the airport, a small beach which was on the doorstep and about a 10 min walk to a Eurospar supermarket, we didn’t walk anywhere else so I can’t comment on how far anything else is…

Oh the hotel also had their own little ‘cat cafe’ set up, this to me screams we are a top hotel, this meant there were friendly cats waiting for me within the hotel grounds (with one waiting every morning in the same place)

Weather? Wow it was literally perfect, I was slightly concerned as we went at the end of November and what with Mykonos being soooo chilly with the wind, but I was so surprised and grateful for such lovely weather, so we were able to really make the most of nipping out for some quick photo shoots or just relaxing on the balcony in the sun.

We spent every day either in the hotel or the surrounding area, apart from my birthday where we decided to travel out a bit further, after doing some quick research the day before, we decided to book a day tour to the south, this included being picked up right outside the hotel at 9am in a double decker coach, going to El Golfo, Los Hervideros, wine tasting stopping for lunch and then to Timanfaya National Park for some geothermal experiments and a lunar route. We booked through Get Your Guide and it was only about £30 each. This trip was amazing (rather tiring by the end but nonetheless amazing) The lunar route ended the tour on such a high, you’re in this big double decker coach, driving around on the smallest roads, so close to the cliff edge, it’s such a thrill and the scenes around you are just breathtaking with the volcanos and the fact it literally looks like you’re on the moon or a film set!

It was a short trip but I’m 100% prepared to go back, to stay at the same hotel and maybe this time try the ‘north tour’ of the island.
